Women's Tennis in all of it's pixelated glory. To start off, I'd like to note that Konami made this game, or at least had a hand in publishing it. WTA Tour Tennis doesn't have all that much to offer, but has just enough to not be considered and absolute shitpile game. This game treats tennis basically like pong, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. There are 2 modes to the game "exhibition" and "WTA Tour" (which stands for Women Trying Athletics or something). Exhibition is the atypical pickup and play mode, to get credits you have to go through the Tour mode. The Tour mode consists of 12 tournaments and you get scolded at the end for not being overall 1st place. You get credits no matter what place you get, I believe. Personally I ended in 7th overall, but also started with the 2bd worst character. Going from 19th to 7th is pretty darn good imo. There's 20 characters in the game, and 12 courts. The character art looks decent, the pixelated gameplay is good enough, and the music is slightly reminiscent of a nintendo party game theme. The music inparticular isn't exactly bad for this game, however, after 10 hours, any music(other than starcraft) will start to wear on anyone. each character has their own faults and playstyles, though some may not be that noticeable. Martina Hingis, in particular, earned my shithole of the game award. All the other characters, to an extent, could be won out in a back and forth throwdown EXCEPT Hingis who would magically get to the ball EVERY SINGLE TIME. Jennifer Capriati was another that was particularly hard to face, but she was beatable, Hingis was the LSSJ Broly of this game. Pickup this game if you want to screw around for maybe an hour or two, don't expect to beat tour mode without 12+ hours(I whiffed some tournaments on purpose... hate hingis...). This game is one of the weird game's that you get your money's worth if you buy it, but it's almost all because of konami's obvious influence on the game. The gameplay can be fun, but it's also VERY tedious, because well... it's pong.
Hot Tips: To smash you have to press forward+B AND be really close to the net AND have the ball be popped up.
All in All, I was debating on a score of 7 or 8 but settled with a 7.5 because I could not give it an 8. The Tedious nature of the game and length are what holds it back the most, and some enemies; HINGIS THE DINGUS, make the task of playing to win just straight up stupid.
