Genre: Action
Developer: Sega
Publisher: Sega
Charming and distinct, Toejam & Earl's graphics were never used to showcase the Genesis. But they did make for a one-of-a-kind, character loaded experience. And best of all, because of the nature of the visuals, they don't really suffer due to a lack of emulator filtering modes either.
Like the graphics, the sound effects and music in TJ&E are hardly technical showcases. But they do well to compliment the very unique character of the game without getting in the way. Even in 22 khz, they do the job!
TJ&E is a deceptively complex game, and is a real genre-bender; exploration, survival, cooperation, rationing, and a little luck are all required to complete a session of this title. A classic!
It's difficult or impossible to fault the original game with much of anything. And the best part is that due to the nature of its design, it translates really well to the Wii. If you're going to buy a Virtual Console title, this is a good choice.
