Street Fighter 6 Year 1-2 Fighters Edition (Sniper)
Genre: 2d Fighter
Developer: Capcom
Publisher: Capcom

Graphics
Everything this reviewer said when this sixth "Street Fighter" came out back on the PlayStation 5 still holds true-- so what's specifically different with this Switch 2 rendition? It certainly has a lower resolution-- but due to DLSS wizardry not as much lower as one would have anticipated, the only dead give-away being some of the hair, which is full of artifacts and is sometimes flat-out goofy looking. In docked mode the game looks surprisingly good, but in handheld mode several aspects take a sizable hit. Thankfully the core combat runs at sixty frames-per-second, even if the battles in "World Tour" mode only run at thirty.

Sound
There isn't much to say about the sound, except that maybe this reviewer was a little too harsh on the music the first time around; yes some of the compositions, such as the arcade credits, are purely bizarre. But other motifs, like the one used for the totally non-sequitur "World Tour" mode really do help to amp up the "goofiness". The game's voice acting is so pretty solid, with essentially all of the characters having good acting to accompany their personalities.

Gameplay
In the years since first playing the game at its original launch, the gameplay has really jumped in esteem by this reviewer. The "Drive System", particularly "Drive Reversals", are such a nuanced mechanics that it's fun to learn all of the clever ways to use them. It's a little difficult to consistently do fireball rolls with the Switch 2 joy-cons, and throwing is cumbersome because the right analog stick gets in the way-- but the Switch 2's brand new Pro controller is phenomenal; once the d-pad is just a little broken in, it functions just as perfectly as the PlayStation 5 one does.

Overall
Street Fighter 6 is a great game-- almost a modern classic really, as it's continued to add content, have balancing refinement, and a whole lot more since it came out. The slate of new characters are superb, including Elena, Akuma, Bison, and even some SNK entrants like Mai and Terry. This Switch 2 version-- weird hair artifacts and 30 fps "World Tour" battles aside-- looks and runs well in docked mode, with acceptable visuals when playing undocked. For fans of 2D fighters, this is an excellent launch title to check out for Nintendo's brand new platform.
