SoulCalibur (Sniper)
Genre: 3d Fighter
Developer: Namco
Publisher: Namco

Graphics
A well-known and logical cliche says that developers get better at pushing hardware the more time they have to work with it. What transpired in the development of SoulCalibur then is an aberration, as the title looks more akin to an Xbox 360 game than a Dreamcast title. The stage, character, and even menu designs are almost unbelievably sophisticated, appealing and clean.

Sound
Junichi Nakatsuru and company prove that it is possible to compose video game orchestra music that isn't wearisome and forgettable, as Soul Calibur's songs are melodic, symphonic, and catchy. Voice acting is a strong suit as well, with Nightmare's voice actor in particular delivering his lines with chilling effectiveness.

Gameplay
As the first 3d fighter not called "Bushido Blade" to allow for full freedom of character movement, SoulCalibur builds on what made Soul Edge a standout fighter-- namely, its accessibility, but without sacrificing much depth. For some, the game may be too forgiving to beginners, but even critics should admit that the engine is fairly water tight and "easy to learn difficult to master" nonetheless.

Overall
SoulCalibur's beautiful artwork-- notable character designs and spectacular vistas-- complimented with an interesting soundtrack and an almost one-of-a-kind representation of what it means to make forgiving yet still precise gameplay mechanics, illustrate what a "labor of love" this title was for its creators, and what a pleasing experience it is for the player as well.
