Don't let the completion time fool you, This game is actually pretty short, but if you're like me, you'll get caught up in trying to beat the time attack mode. This is another one of those games that is a collection of game styles and doesn't have a true story mode, the credits are in the main menu. As far as a scrabble game, it's got the basic bookworm style gameplay, where you have to make words with letters that are connected to each other. There are several modes in this game, but the basic gameplay is all the same. The longer words will make more points, and being on one of the bonus squares will land you even more points. Sax and Zen are always big point words. The music to the game is hit or miss. The best part of this game other than readjusting your repertoire of vocabulary is the animations after you win or lose. It ranges from the little square guy exploding to an immaculate fireworks display and the game stroking your ego by calling you a master. Honestly, some of the explosions on that little square guy are downright gorey. I wouldn't expect exploding eyeballs out of a nintendo game. This game is more fast paced and action based in most of its modes compared to other scrabble games. There's the 10-word mode where you make as many points with 10 words. the time-attack mode where you make 100, 200, or 500 points in a certain amount of time. An action mode, where an invisible time-clock slides down the puzzle as you're making words. make a word on the time clock to remove it, if it hits the bottom GAME OVER. The puzzle mode is basically the same but the time clock only goes down when you make a word. Then there's classic mode where you are given a set amount of letters that will eventually run out and the game will end when no more words can be made. There's also the brutal survival mode, where you make words to increase your timer. It's basically like trying to outrun a zombie horde. X, Z, and W are always big points so make sure to take full advantage of them. The menu screen in this game honestly screams 'TITUS' to me. Don't know what they were thinking with that. For some reason as well, there's just a picture of a baby on the credits screen. This was pretty fun though for a pickup game of BOOKWORM. (maybe they should have been honest about the title)
Hot Tips: Vibe is not counted as a word.
All in All, I went with a 9.0 on this one. Sometimes you can't get the words you want, and some of the randomness makes things either very hard or undoable. Time Attack mode was really rigid with it's timing.
