Another movie game. Ice Age, follows the story of Manny the Mammoth and Sid the Sloth. Diego the Sabertooth Tiger is also there during Sid's stages as a 'continue' point. This is a 2D platformer that feels quite a lot like a game you would find inside a box of cereal. You control Manny most of the time but there are a few Sid stages. The plot of the game is the same as the movie, mammoth finds a tiny human, teams up with sloth and tiger to bring tiny human back to pixar's traveling stage crew. The Manny levels are filled with various objects to avoid, jump on, or manipulate to advance. Sometimes you have to manipulate enemies as well. This is done through his "belly flop" attack. It causes the entire screen to shake and everything on it to be effected. Some enemies flip over, some take damage, some blocks may fall or break. Manny can also attack with his long elephant nose. Sid's levels are vastly different in that you are racing against the scrolling screen to reach the end of the level while avoiding death. It's weird how they gave the sloth the fastest levels. If you get too close to the left side of the screen on sid's levels, you'll lose and be sent back to the most recent checkpoint. There are no lives in this game, but there are "acorns". Each level has tons of acorns in them, more than 40 each. To get a golden acorn icon on each level you need to get AT LEAST 40 acorns. Every time you get hit by a spike or fall into a pit you lose an acorn. This means that there's very little room for error if you want to get that golden nut. Luckily there's more than 40 per level so there IS room for error. Some levels have bosses in them, but in all honesty, the bosses in this game are pathetic. All except that bird. That bird boss is a demon from hell. Graphically speaking, this game is aesthetically pleasing to the eye. It's designed to be a children's game so everything has a black outline, which is good. Music wise the game is okay too, with one song in particular (the crystal cavern level) being a cut above the rest. Diego doesn't see any action in this game. 10 levels, 1 hour of play, it's not a long game. Very little replay value as well.
All in All, a 6.5 was appropriate. The action was very basic and bland. Blind Falls, sometimes into death pits. No Diego levels. Hitboxes were a bit funky. Corner-jumping to avoid damage. Respawning enemies. Sid's levels scroll too fast. Kind of a weird game design.
