Gloomy Dungeons 3d (Sniper)
Genre: First-Person Shooter
Developer: United Fun Traders
Publisher: Independent

Graphics
In all regards, it's clear that Gloomy Dungeon's aesthetic is inspired almost entirely by Doom-- the style of the textures, baddie sprites, and even the lighting model looks very much like the aforementioned id classic. From a technology perspective, the engine is akin to a razor-sharp Wolfenstein 3d, what with 90 degree corners, and flat level surfaces. There's nothing particularly creative here, but what's present is well done.

Sound
If Bobby Prince's original Doom soundtrack was full of plaugerizations, then Gloomy Dungeon's soundtrack is a plaugerization of plaugerizations-- the title's various songs might as well have been ripped straight from Doom, as they essentially were, than subtly changed just so they couldn't be considered total copies. Funnily though, what worked for Doom works here, and between the songs and the interesting sound effects, the game doesn't lack for character.

Gameplay
Gloomy Dungeons has no shortage of levels-- 25 of them to be exact-- and while they are nowhere near as good as Wolf 3d's best stages, they're still competently assembled and well paced. The weapons are satisfying to use but the enemies, despite being fun to look at, aren't particularily interesting from a mechanics perspective.

Overall
As what you would expect if you merged Wolf 3d and Doom-- nothing more and nothing less-- Gloomy Dungeons 3d is a solid mobile title that is enjoyable to play. That said, it's extremely short on variety, and is a microcosm of mobile titles at large; as a more expensive game with a little bigger budget behind it, it could have been a truly wonderful corridor shooter. But in its current form, it's little more than a toilet time waster.
