GT Racing 2: The Real Car Experience (Sniper)
Genre: Racing
Developer: Gameloft
Publisher: Gameloft

Graphics
The texture resolution in GT Racing 2 is incredible, not just by mobile standards, but even when compared to console stalwarts like the recent Gran Turismo games. Polygon count is rapidly closing the gap as well. From an artistic perspective, menus are ultra polished and tracks are very aesthetically pleasing.

Sound
GT Racing 2 has the obligatory "crazy" licensed soundtrack, with songs about wanting to get taken over to best friends' houses, among other bizarre themes. Engine noises sound good, but they're definitely not recorded for each car. Some light voiceover work in the form of a coach, who speaks occasionally during the races, is well done, but a little corny too.

Gameplay
The game is billed as "The Real Car Experience", although what types of "real" cars the engine is supposed to emulate is up for debate; even the cheap front-wheel drive econoboxes in the game can almost be driven completely flat out through the tracks, such is their absurd turn-in, level of grip, and total absence of understeer. The Moga controller support works well, although there is no way to manually change gears.

Overall
Playing an almost-Forza Motorsport on a phone certainly feels novel, and the game deserves some kudos for pulling that off with a degree of respectability. Aside from the poor physics engine, the game's biggest problem is the pacing, which has been very much compromised by the game's "freemium" nature; after all, if you can move along too quickly on your own, why spend real cash on the title's "premium currency"? Still, for patient fans of arcade racers, GT Racing 2 is a solid if flawed experience.
