Rrrriibbbittt. Frogger's Back! Although I haven't played the first game in this series, I can clearly get the feel of the classic frogger style of hopping, leaping, and jumping from this amphibian sequel. The story is pretty simple; Frogger is bored! Well, watching TV and lazing about will do that to you. Suddenly, a magician shows up! Things in frogger's life go from weird to crazy as magic starts getting unleashed all around him. He sets off to magic world with the help of his new wizard friend to recover some special powers from each of the five island worlds in order to form the mythical magic wand! The game itself plays in an atypical frogger style of top-down 4-direction grid based hopping action. It's a bit more open-worldy than the classic frogger trying to avoid traffic. There is traffic however! Even cars in some levels. By completing 2 levels in each world you're treated to a boss fight which always ends up being some type of mini-game. Timing is crucial and key in this series, as one half second of delay can cause death. Getting 1-ups is fairly easy and there's also some secret bonus levels by getting extras in each stage. One of the better parts of this game is the music which fits fairly well to each of the theme'd worlds. Although this one offers an absolute ton of free lives, it can also taketh them away pretty fast. Don't worry though, at worst, when you game over you're set back to the world you lost all your lives to, with whatever you started that world with. That can be a good thing or a bad thing, but as long as you're a decent player, it shouldn't be that bad. The simon says boss was probably the worst in this game, and likewise, the final boss was probably the most enjoyable. There's a twist to the plot of this one, but I won't spoil it so others can enjoy this fine game. There are also a few options available post game such as a speedrun mode amongst other things. The controls might get you killed a few times, a bit awkward. Worth the playthrough, Credits after the final boss is beaten and peace is returned to both magic world and frogworld. They call frogger's homeworld frogworld right? They should.
Hot Tips: Final Boss:(any element + tree = free 1-ups)
All in All, Frogger's 2nd game earned an enjoyable 8.5 for it's rhythmic gameplay. Easy death pits, Simon Says Boss, Strange Controls.
