The second and last Fantastic Four game on the GBA. This one is centered around the hothead, Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch. Although the others appear at the start and end of the game, this adventure is entirely a pyrocratic affair. You play Johnny, as the story picks up immediately after the incident that grants you powers. It takes a drastically different turn from the victor von doom, aka Dr. Doom storyline. In this adventure, The Human Torch is plagued by little green men who want to steal his cosmic power. They chase him around the globe from snowboarding to city life to the desert and a few more. A classical beat'em up is what you get with this one. Fast paced but not always a good thing. Johnny has the ability to both fly(midair jump) and dash to speed up the action. There's a caveat to this though, dashing through an attack will often hurt if you don't hit it perfectly against your iframes. A to jump, B to punch, and Down+B to launch a fireball. This beat'em up also features occasional upgrades you can choose after clearing some levels. You get 4 options of "Health" "Melee" "Range" and "Flight". The first three are pretty obvious, but the flight one effects how many times you can double jump in midair, as well as the strength of your dash attack. The levels are well done graphically, you won't have trouble figuring out what's an enemy or what's a platform most of the time. That said, they are also ridiculously big! That is to say, once you max out flight, you'll discover the level height is ginormous! Not only that, but the levels are supposed to be a 5 minute affair, but I had trouble getting through most of them in under 12 minutes. Another add-on difficulty is that most levels have 5 trapped people in them that need rescuing. Now you could be a jerk and just ignore them, I don't think it matters, but to me I rescued most of them. That severely cut into my time since they are often down secondary pathways. The enemies range from the typical foot solder to heavy mech samurai that never friggin dies. Johnny also has 2 other special abilities he can activate with the L or R button. The L button is like a massive screen explosion, and the R button is like a focused plasma laser that Johnny fires infront of him. These specials look extremely cool and are also fairly satisfying to an extent. Specials eat up a full power bar which stack in the top left from defeating enemies. I think 8 is the max you can hold at any given time. The 'sexy nurse' trope is alive and well in this game as well. Scattered throughout the levels the 'sexy nurse' will heal you just by touching her. Various villains get in your way, and Johnny's actions are some times questionable. Hey, when you're that hot though, what's it matter ya know? The Skrulls are the main enemy in this game, which I have no idea who the hell they are. Apparently little green men. Either way, beat em up the bad guys, save the trapped civs, win the day. The bosses are pretty interesting too. They always got a move up their sleeve that'll keep you guessing. OH and of course this game has no lives and infinite continues. Fun Eh? There are a few bonus minigames that'll keep you guessing. Snowboarding, Motocross, and flying shmup levels too. Credits after the final boss.
All in All, This firebrand of an adventure received a 9.0 score for it's fun action gameplay. The difficulty was pretty hard, long levels. Sound effects need to be turned way down(Way too loud). Enemy AI is kinda a jerk at times. Snowboarding minigame. Missile up my ass.
