Review
Risk! I mean For England! or whatever, it doesn't matter. Defender of the Crown is a game of risk set in England in the year of our lord 1150. There were like, 5 or 6 factions and it's basically a war-like risk type game where your goal is to, simply put, control all of England(I assume). The reason I say assume is because In my run of this game I managed to kill all my soldiers and watch my castle burn to the ground. SmileyFace. The game plays like risk, which I've never been all that great at. You have territories that look amazing and clearly others you want to keep that are low risk. Each turn you get X amount of gold to spend on units. This is split up between soldiers, knights, catapults, and building a castle. The castles seem to have some defensive properties I guess, but I'm not quite sure because this game has some really stupid shenanigans to it. Randomly during your adventures in consolidating England, you'll be prompted by random events. Some will destroy your catapults, others will halve your gold income, some will challenge you to a joust, and others will request you rescue a princess. The Jousting is weird and I think It requires you to aim properly. If you hit your opponent off your horse, for some reason, you have to battle them with a mace and you start with half health. This doesn't seem fair. If you choose to rescue a princess you have to do some swordplay shenanigans. The swordplay is left-right 2D plane where you press A to stab and B to parry. The issue is that this style just doesn't work out all that well and I lost every single time this mode occurred. Both of these modes can make you lose territories. In all earnestly, this just isn't my type of game at all. It's too random and as soon as you enter a dispute (army vs army) the numbers start immediately dropping FAST before you can even select a tactic. Maybe this is supposed to be a slow game, but early game goes so fast even on easy mode that you'll be looking to just playing the original risk anyways. Oh by the way, robin hood is in this game. whatever, ya know? Credits after you win or lose. At least it takes place in the year of our lord.

All in All, this game was a tiring 4.0 for it's score. KMart Risk. Ridiculously Strong AI. No minigame tutorials. Lose turns from random events.
