Jumpman! on the GBA! Donkey Kong is one, if not THE classic Nintendo game, featuring Mario's first adventure as Jumpman. Mario runs and jumps over barrels to save his girlfriend from a deranged monkey known as Donkey Kong in this 2D vertical platformer. This game only has 3 levels in it, and is honestly ridiculously easy to beat. The game does increase in difficulty and speed the more you beat it. Grab the hammer, smash the barrels and flames for extra points. Getting up to the 'lady' is all you have to do in level 1. In level 2 you have to get her gear and get to her. In level 3 you have to get her gear, and drop all the spikes in the rails below donkey kong. Mario and Pauline are reunited and HEART! Pauline is this game's damsel in distress. Canonically she is Mario's girlfriend at the time. There's not too much to say about this because it's such an early-gaming game. The music is classic, all 1 song. The gameplay is a simple run, jump, climb. There's like 2 sound effects. This was an arcade game so you can't expect too much, and this being the GBA port simply made it more accessible to play on the go. I guess in that sense it did provide some sense of an "arcade on the go" feel. Personally I think this should have been bundled with 3 or 4 other arcade games if nintendo was really serious and wanted to truly sell lots of games. Imagine if they put this, kung-fu, galaga, and pacman on the same cartridge instead of just 3 levels of Donkey Kong.
All in All, I decided a 7 is adequate. It's really hard to fault an arcade game port that only lasts two minutes. Short game, could use more levels. Classic NO-MUSIC as well, they could have put something in. No Quality of Life updates either.
