Essentially this game is a knockoff of Metal Slug. CT Special Forces, I'm assuming the CT stands for Counter-Terrorism. Your job in this game is a elite force unit comprised of 2 members known as Stealth Owl and Raptor. You control only one of them during missions. There are 3 missions in each world and 4 worlds in this game, which makes it for a total of 12 levels. The levels in this game are actually quite huge. Play-wise it's basically Metal Slug, which means it's a 2D Run&Gun platformer with various ammo drops you can find to use other guns. Other guns include a flamethrower, a rocket launcher, and a machine gun. There's also a rope that's a gimmick way to advance the levels that needs to be collected and handcuffs for when you find each of the masterminds in each world. Each World consists of a totally nondescript area that totally isn't Russia, Iraq, Chile, and France on the world map that isn't earth. Each area has it's own environment. Not-Russia is filled with snow and not-russians. Not-Iraq is a desert region with underground bunkers and sand dunes. Not-Chile is a jungle biome with a bajillion enemy troops and not a lot of vertical design. Not-France is basically a run down european city that kinda looks like detroit on a good weekend. The goal for each level depends on what type of level it is. The 2D platformer levels will have you trying to reach the flag at the end of the stage. If it's the 3rd level in a world, there will be a Boss at the end of the stage you have to defeat. There are also a few Helicopter levels that are top-down shmup styled. I've said this before but the levels are huge in this game. Because of how big they are and how easy it is to die, I had to take a somewhat slow and steady approach. Once you beat a world you get a password to continue from. The password system is fairly simple in this game (4 numbers) and it remembers it automatically when you beat a world.... ISN'T THAT CONVENIENT CONTRA ADVANCE!!!!!. Some of the guns like the flamethrower are more or less useless, and I have a nasty habit of only using the base gun in games. The base gun you get is pretty pathetic and has a long wait time between shots. The Machine Gun on the other hand is your goto weapon. There are also grenades you can pick up which can be thrown with the R button and are incredibly useful. A button is jump, B button is weapon shoot, L to change weapon. It's a fairly easy game to pick up and play but don't expect to get that far unless you're willing to invest some time. Because you have to beat a world to get a password and each level is huge and easy to die in, you are basically forced to play this game for at least an hour or 2 if you want to make any progress. The design in that concept could have been a bit better. The game design was also a bit lacking in a sense that you could often position yourself to shoot enemies but they would take way too many shots to die. In truth that's probably the way the game was intended to be played. There are also 2 weird mini-games you're forced to play as you advance in the game. A parachute minigame and a sniper minigame. If you fail the parachute you lose a life and have to do it again. If you win the sniper without killing any civilians you get 1 extra life. The graphics were fairly good and the music was on par. For some reason though, when you beat the game, you have to go to the menu to get the credits. How weird is that? Additionally "Challenge Mode" seems to be some type of multiplayer thing. a bit weird.
All in All, This game gunned in with a 8.5 score for all the people I didn't shoot in the head during the sniper parts. The game design was a bit slow and the password every 3 levels were this game's biggest hindrances. Balance between enemy HP and the basic weapon's damage output was also wildly off. Flamethrower was more or less useless as a weapon. The random breakable walls were completely unnecessary.
