A horrible game. Let me start off with this premise, there is a championship mode with no rewards. Yes, you heard me right. The championship mode of this game has NO rewards. There's no point to it other than to simply exist. From the start of the game ALL championships are open and available, beating any of them doesn't give anything. They're more of a challenge mode than anything else. Alright let's start this review properly. *ahem*. Boxing Fever is a feverishly shitty game by design. It's a boxing game that's 'supposed' to be similar to punchout, HOWEVER, they made the mistake of making it 1st person instead of over-the-shoulder 3rd person. This means that your character and the enemy are STRAIGHT UP in the action 100% of the time. If the opponent is big or likes to move, you often cannot see them or what they're doing. It also means that when they are attacking, you won't know wtf is going on because the action is all over the screen. You, the player, have 2 sets of 4 attacks in this game. You can hit with a left or right punch, as well as a low left/right punch. You also have 4 additional attacks if you hold left or right, which gives you the ability to throw left/right hooks(upward punches) or left/right uppercuts (low punches). There actually is a hidden 5th attack to this as well, a "jab" which is a fast punch when performing the uppercuts using the opposite hand. This may seem very intimidating at first, but rest assured, you won't be using any of these attacks. Why? Well, that's because this game uses a little known thing in the gaming industry known as 'reading inputs'. Yes, yes, that's right... they pull a capcom. Depending on the difficulty level(from what it seems like) the AI in this game will either full-counter you depending on the inputs you put in, or position itself in a way so that it will be able to go on the full offensive against you. This means that no matter how good you are in this game, unless you get lucky, you're gonna get the shit beat out of you to an extent. To further exasperate the problem, this game also implements 2 other MAJOR issues that make it borderline unplayable. The first OTHER issue is input eating. This game not only reads inputs but eats inputs as well. This obviously is a very serious issue for a fast action game like any boxing game should be. That brings me to the last OTHER issue, which is something so heinous that I've barely seen it before. Input Creation. Yes, that's right, this game CREATES inputs. Several times during gameplay I would press something like the UP or DODGE buttons only to have my character throw a punch or move in a weird direction. Let's get back to championship mode for a second though. There are 3 modes in this game: Single Fight, Championship, and Survival. Championship has 5 trophies, but you start with all of them. In other words, the championship trophies are simply a difficulty setting!!!! This game, legitimately, would have been over in half an hour if I realized that earlier. Instead I went through 4 trophies before looking up to see if it was worth it. It was not worth it. The game constantly uses recoloring and renaming for opponents. This is basically another k-mart knockoff game, only it's more like a tjmax knockoff. Credits are always available from the Menu. In fact, that's the only way you can view them. Shit game, disorienting screen, and bad mechanics. HARD SKIP.
All in All, a 2.5 score for this was far too generous. Mechanically a bad design. Music was schizophrenic. Characters were Ugly. Game design was horrible. Gameplay was limp. Read/Eat/Create input designs made this a nightmare scenario game. No "game complete" feel out of anything.
