Basically sonic without the speed gimmick. This is a hudson game and the graphics show. They're very well done, and the game is additionally well done with controls and design. It's a 2D platformer game where you control an animalman named Blender and team up with mini-Bros you find along the way. Thus the name 'Blender Bros.' is born. Blender is kinda like a snoopy dog with long ears I think. Or he could be a rabbit, but I think he's a dog. He gets around by spinning around using his ears as a tornado weapon. Incidentally he can also slightly hover with those ears as well and spring up to great heights by holding the Down button and jumping with them as well. You start at Cosmo Heaven, and go to every other planet in the galaxy to free them from the animalman that are attacking them. Every few stages you get an F-Zero type gimmick where you have to race to pick up these cell-phone lookin' things to stop the planet from exploding. Interestingly enough, the world called "First Heaven" is explicitly referred to as "former Earth". The bosses themselves range in difficulty and get harder over time, to basically near impossible if not for the Mini-Bros. Now lemme tell ya something about this lil bastards... they change your playstyle ALOT. Depending on which mini-bro you bring with you, they grant you a special power. One of them can heal you, another will attack with you, another lets you freeze an enemy, another grants you invincibility, and so on. You can only bring 1 with you, so figuring out which to bring in what scenario is often key. Travelling through a low gravity area for example, invincibility is a huge benefit. When fighting a boss the health drain mini-bro is best IMO. This game has a unique background feature too that it sometimes uses. Similar to the old video games where you have an up/down exit in 2D plane, this game features a fully functional background that you can get over to if you find an exit up/down to it. On very rare ocassions you can also interact with the background by finding a rock or having the enemy throw something at you. It was pretty interesting at least, if nothing more than a novel distraction. The mini-bros. can also be "powered up" by listening to music. Music can be bought in the shop in Cosmo Heaven from bones you collect in stages or from beaten enemies. It's pretty cheap but you also have a little bit of a guessing game to figure out what it needs to power-up. The powered up mini-bros are definitely stronger than their unpowered versions. Some mini-bros lose their abilities once they're powered up though. It seems like you can collect multiple mini-bros, but I am unsure how the game handles multiples. The final boss is a bit of a doozy, so definitely get whatever your strongest mini-bro is. I used the vamprie dolphin swordfish a lot, he powered up from wapane. Credits after the final boss.
Hot Tips: Wapane's powered up form is amazing.
All in All, This game salvaged an 8.2 score for it's clean and actiony style. Semi-Bad Hitboxes, F-Zero parts looked bad, QuickTimer Iframes, Furries.
